love this. As a fellow Gen Xer. i do remember having conversations about how to survive a nuclear attack. Remember those TV ads, telling us to hide under an internal door leaked against a wall. And stock up on tinned food!!!

but I agree, the scale of uncertainty today is multiplying on a daily basis!

It's hard to know where to hide from what's going on in the world today!

Grew up in Europe here. Fellow Gen-X.

We had TV PSA in the nuclear bunker in school. A good bunker? Nah. PSA’s included The Day After.

The adults did not lie to us. This I am thankful for. My verdict, I do NOT want to survive a nuclear war. Drop that fucker ON MY HEAD!! Poof—plasma.

8 minutes gives me enough time to drink myself stupid and play Final Countdown.

I am not making fun. I mean that.

To those reading this who are less familiar with the effects of MAD. Watch the movie Threads. It will give you damn good idea why I have NO intent to exist in a post-nuclear armageddon world.

In case of a limited tactical situation I am reminded of being UP-WIND from Chernobyl and over 1000 miles away. That scenario is survivable. And hella INTERESTING. Ever seen pink evergreens? Oh, and cancer for everyone!

I may be DARK here. Early Gen-X, extra extra jaded, what can I say. 🥃

Now to address the post. BC I may be jaded but try not to be rude. ☺️

I wholeheartedly agree. Today the scale is unpredictable and out of control.

Appreciated hearing someone articuate what many of us feel but struggle to name. The comparison to post 9/11 context-building hits harder now, maybe because the threats feel less external and more systemic. Went through my own newsroom redundancy afew years back and found that stepping away from daily news consumption actualy helped me see patterns I'd missed when I was inside it.

Interesting that stepping back from news helps you see what's happening more clearly. Thanks for the comment!
